Mouth guards are necessary for orthodontic patients who play contact sports or participate in martial arts.

Your orthodontist will fabricate a customized mouthguard made specifically for patients with braces. It will be fitted around the brackets and provide protection during activity.

Do not use standard-fit mouth guards, such as the type purchased at from sporting goods stores. Do not use "boil and bite" mouth guards, either, as these may lock around the brackets.

Even with a mouthguard, be very cautious while participating in contact sports and martial arts.
